Common Exam Mistakes

The ten mistakes that lose the most marks every year — and how candidates can avoid them in the exam hall.

Candidate Motivation

Stories from former Division I candidates, daily mantras, and how to stay grounded through Term 3.

Teacher & Parent Advice

How class teachers and parents can structure the final 12 weeks — without burning the candidate out.

The PLE year

A term-by-term game plan

Term 1

Foundations

Cover the full P.5–P.7 syllabus map. Two past papers a month. No exam pressure yet — just steady ground.

Term 2

Practice

Move into mixed-topic past papers. Build timing discipline. Weekly diagnostic test on the weakest subject.

Term 3

Polish & rest

Four UNEB-format mock papers under exam conditions. Cut new content. Sleep matters more than another past paper.

Subject-by-subject tips

One tip per subject that moves marks

English

Plan the composition for 5 minutes before writing. A planned 30-line story beats an unplanned 60-line one every time.

Mathematics

Read every question twice. Underline the numbers and the units. Most lost marks are reading mistakes, not maths mistakes.

Integrated Science

Use full sentences in long-answer questions. 'Because' and 'therefore' are worth marks.

Social Studies

Learn the map of Uganda cold — districts, lakes, rivers. Map questions are guaranteed marks if you've practised.

Results that travel

Voices from former candidates and teachers

"The PASS PLE Mathematics book showed me exactly how UNEB asks each topic. By mock 3 I was finishing the paper with 20 minutes to spare."

Akello PatiencePLE candidate, 2025, Aggregate 6 — Division I

"We replaced our old revision books with the PASS PLE series. Our First Grade count tripled in two years."
